Gaining attention is possibly the most important thing for 99% of businesses. Without attention you can't expect anyone to know you exist and as a result make sales. Whether you are Walmart spending millions on ad creation and distribution (must watch) or a niche estate agency running some retargeting ads, there are some basic concepts that all businesses can do to gain attention.
Before I jump into this blog - I want to thank the team at Oversubscribed for helping me pull these blogs together and support with my social content creation. If you are interested in raising your profile online, head over to Oversubscribed.
Here are my top 5 tips that all businesses regardless of their size should do to gain attention
1. Produce content and socially amplify it to your target market. Content can come in the form of video, text or even photos. It doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. By using social platforms you can get readers onto your blog for as little as 0.01p (what I achieve).
That's 10,000 potential customers engaging with your company, on your website for just £100.
Video views within Facebook/Instagram could be even cheaper but there are advantages of them being on your website when engaging.
2. Attend trade shows or industry conferences. If you are an expert within your industry or have employees that are, then try and book speaking slots at these shows. It's a great way to engage a large number of customers. If you don't fancy speaking on stage then gaining other space at the shows could be just as good (stands, sponsorship, flyers) ... but make sure it's engaging and measurable in some way. Don't just be one of 50 logos in a welcome pack and expect to gain anything from it.
3. Produce long form content such as guides that help your customers. This could be guides on family law, fashion or funeral guides. Again this can be video or text formats. As long as your customers will find it useful, it's worth producing. Again, use paid social to reach these potential customers and help them.
4. Run retargeting adverts, with the other three gaining you attention and driving customers to engage with your business. Using retargeting adverts you can very cheaply keep reminding your potential customers that you exist. It's important to have these set up as they are proven to bring back a great ROI. If you or your business need any help setting up retargeting adverts then drop me a message chris@wearemedia.london.
5. I might get some heat for this one, but use the phone. Within my business which is B2B mainly, having a team using phones to contact possible customers is hugely successful. But to do this you need to have a high customer life time value (how much they will spend over time). If you are selling low cost clothing then this probably isn't viable. But if you have B2B leads coming in and then an inbound and outbound sales team will help gain attention and win new customers. See my guide on how I scaled from £0 to £2m in B2B sales.
I would love to hear your thoughts on anything else that has gained your business huge amounts of attention.
