How routine makes everything possible

Updated: Nov 21, 2022

Having the right routine allows me to stay positive, enthusiastic, happy, healthy and mentally strong regardless of the outwards environment. It also allows me to pull myself out of a mental slump from time to time.

Before I jump into this blog - I want to thank the team at Oversubscribed for helping me pull these blogs together and support with my social content creation. If you are interested in raising your profile online, head over to Oversubscribed.

Over the 6/7 years of running a business there have been huge ups, but also some huge downs.

"Owing hundreds of thousands of pounds, employees stealing from the business and being unable to make payroll to name a few."

Early on, it became clear that if I didn’t find a way to mentally deal with the problems I faced daily then I’d have no chance and would just crumble. Regardless of your situation I think it’s super important to look after yourself mentally because no one else can.

I’d spend from 6am - 10pm either working or travelling to work. Weekends weren’t much different. Doing this for multiple years in a row starts to take its toll on your energy and enthusiasm if you aren't careful.

Other than a week's working holiday once a year, I have very little social life that some people use to ‘switch off’. Even if I have time off, I couldn't switch off because it’s still there.

"The best thing I’ve learned to do is follow a routine that makes life far more enjoyable regardless of what’s happening."

The following routines allowed this:

Morning: (This has changed a few times - find something that works for you).

  1. I wake up (don't look at socials) and read for 1 - 2 hours.

  2. I take 10 minutes to meditate to clear my head (not very good at this but trying).

  3. I then use my success planner I developed to write down the following:

Evening:

  1. 4/5 times a week I will workout for an hour

  2. Visualise myself living my goals while falling asleep

Finally become aware of your thoughts and make sure you aren’t always thinking negatively.

Book / app recommendation to help

Calm app - mediation app that is useful to help relaxation or calming your mind down if you are worried or thinking about something

Book - Anthony Robbins Awaken the Giant Within. It’s my favourite book and talks a lot about the psychology of becoming successful

There's still a lot of room for me to improve, but this definitely helps me move closer to being a high performing person.
